Research work is closely connected with educational activity at BSTU.
There have emerged a number of scientific schools in the fields of power machine building, mechanical
engineering and information technologies enjoying deserved authority in the scientific and engineering world in Russia and abroad.
More and more attention is paid to the innovation activity as it contributes to the integration of the
academic process, scientific and innovative work and leads ultima analysi to the refinement of training specialists.
BSTU has 3 doctoral dissertation councils on 10 scientific specialities; moreover it’s a member of 2 joint
dissertation councils as their constitutor. For the past 5 years there were defended 11 doctoral and 78 candidate's dissertations by the
teaching staff and faculty members of the University.
BSTU has bilateral agreements about scientific cooperation with Blagonravov Mechanical Engineering
Institute RAS (Russia), Bauman Moscow State Technical University (Russia), Silesian University of Technology (Poland), Taras Shevchenko
Transnistria State University (Moldova), Middlesex Community College (MA, USA).
BSTU has its own scientific and technical journal “Vestnik BGTU” (“BSTU Bulletin”) which is included on
the list of journals recommended by State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles for publishing dissertation materials.
Researches and projects are carried out on government grants. BSTU participates in regional
special-purpose programs aimed at developing Bryansk region infrastructure, scientific and innovational activity.
BSTU extends its cooperation with Russian and foreign higher educational institutions and organizations in
educational and scientific spheres.
Faculty members regularly publish their articles and monographs; participate in national and international
scientific and technical conferences.
The most important aspect of improving graduating specialists’ quality is students’ research work. At BSTU
it’s coordinated by the Council of the Youth Scientific and Technical Society and by faculty members heading study groups.
